Congrats. to the new Cathkin High School Blog group. What are we to make in the future in Technical? S1 pupils in the past have designed and manufacture ice scrapers..... where is the ice? where is the snow? It's supposed to be Winter!!!It looks like we will need to make an Ark soon!!We are now using wood from sustainable resources, water based paints and varnishes, old pupil projects to make new ones etc. There are lots of energy and resource saving to be made in the school. How about some ideas???

This raises some serious questions...with global warming on the increase leading to climate change these 'freeky' weather conditions are going to get worse. Do we want hurricanes and floods here ? Destoying the Earths natural resources is having a terrible effect on the planet. Its good to know our school is doing stuff about that, but what else can we do ?
Well, what about the computers for a start? they are left on standby all night and weekend! how much power does this waste ?
Is the new School going to be green-friendly and energy efficient ?
Should we be setting up an Eco-school staff-student committee to examine just how we work and why we do things?
Concerned teacher
Yes
One thing that can be done immediately is to switch off the monitors (not the computer) when not in school. We do that each night in Technical. Pupils....are you on a computer period 6 any day?? Ask your teacher if you can switch the monitor off at the end of the day and go home happy in the knowledge you have done your bit for the environment.
ps...Computers are left on so that RM can work on them remotely over the internet -ain't that clever! Having said that if they were that clever they should be able to switch them on and off over the internet - I will need to talk to them about that! Might make me a millionaire!!
We could hace recycling bins around the school for plastic, cans, and paper. They could also stop serving the food in those polyfoam containers which take hundreds of years to degrade.
